ASPEN CLONE II

Looking for the perfect spot for a picnic?

A small cluster of aspen trees like this, known as a grove or clone, is actually one giant organism with many stems (trunks) sprouting from a single massive underground root system, genetically identical, sharing nutrients and often changing color together in fall, forming picturesque groupings common in mountain regions. These clonal colonies spread via root suckers, with individual trees living decades but the whole system surviving for thousands of years.
