ASPEN CLONE I
ASPEN CLONE I
The delicate leaves, pastel tones, white bark, and striking “bark eyes” of aspen trees soothe the soul, evoking the calm of warm, sunlit days.
A small cluster of aspens, often called a grove or clone, is in fact one giant organism: many stems arise from a single, massive underground root system, genetically identical and sharing nutrients. In autumn these connected stems often change color together, creating picturesque swaths of gold across mountain slopes. Clonal colonies spread by root suckers; while individual trunks may live only decades, the living system endures for centuries or even millennia, a quiet testament to resilience and continuity in the landscape.
